Barbara Palvin for DSquare2

Sometimes I like what they (you fashion bloggers) like. And as I have also picked up on the habit of stalking the net trying to find interesting blogs, I came across the images below. If I could be penalized for anything, it would have to be that. But like I said, in a day I am most happiest when I am blogging or seeing what other kids are blogging about.

As I sometimes like what they like, this time I came across the beautiful Barbara Palvin modelling for DSquare2. The label could not have chosen a better person to communicate their game plan than her. She has classic looks, but still possesses child-like flair and edgy teenagism. The following are the boyfriend (I personally don't like the term adrogynous) looks from the set.

This post is for you Prenisha, I know you would kick ass in these looks! (:

100 Greatest Singers by Rolling Stones Magazine

After seeing a colleague of mine's bbm status about Sam Cooke being an amazing vocalist, I boldly replied, in agreement 'what a voice'. He went on to tell me about his enjoyable evening with his friends and his girlfriend, and I went on to add my love for Donny Hathaway. But I do love Donny, more than he will ever know (how corny is this? LOL). He then sent me a link to check out, and look what I found:

Rolling Stones's 100 Greatest Singers

Click here and you will see, you can either agree or disagree, honestly it is all up to you. The following are my favourites from the list, in no particular order:

Mary J Blidge, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Luther Vandross, Muddy Waters, Gladys Knight, Donny Hathaway, Kurt Cobain, Kurtis Mayfield, Whitney Houston, Howlin' Wolf, Prince, Nina Simone, Micheal Jackson, Bob Marley, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

These are all based on vocal prowess ofcourse, and I am sure a few will agree that the ones on my favourite list really have God made voices. Sort of makes you wish your stints in the shower expanded to more than that actually.

Tribal try out and Stuff

So the lady behind one of my favourite blogs said she wants to see me working the tribal print skirt I bought some time back. Admittedly, it is one of my favourite items in my wardrobe right now! I wore it at Back to the City 2012 and I wore it at Motlatsi's graduation celebration weekend in April. Here is a look at it, properly this time:

I had two outfits that night, the one I traveled in when I went to the Eastern Cape and the one I wore for the celebrations. See it was quick in, quick out affair. I left JHB on Saturday afternoon, the celebrations were that night and I came back on Sunday morning. Can you imagine the exhaustion, because I was on the road most of the time, driving from PE to Port Alfred via Gtwn and then driving from Port Alfred to EL. Trust that I was a wreck.

The pants I wore were also a fashion first for me, so you can say it was a weekend of firsts. Here it is:

And an additional extra, can you believe that this is my baby sister?

So what do you guys think?

F!@# Yeah Zoe Kravitz!

While the rest of you are going on about Solange Knowles

being your bff if she was a normal chick (she'd be one of my friends too I think), my mind is set on Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's 23 year old daughter Zoe Isabella Kravitz as my bbf!

She epitomizes everything cool.

I love her style,

her attitude,

not too much her choice of men (that one has nothing to do with me), and the silly on screen choices she makes.

I imagine me and her would spend hours laughing,

talking about boys,

she getting drunk silly,

crying about parts of our broken lives and I would be on her speed dial! LOL cray I know, but that's why I am imagining this.

We would spend hours in the mall doing nothing, and

walking around.

We would have stints on stage,

scream on the streets,

occasionally get high (when my morals are not on high alert),

and shopping and thrifting (a new art in my circles).

Everything would be dandy! And I also imagine we would have the biggest of fights, I am a fighter and she looks like a fighter too.

But making up would be easy, that's why she would be my bff.

Anyway, I heart! Zoe Kravitz.

Back to the City '12

Newtown, Johannesburg has long been a favourite area of mine. But this is before all the bustle died down and the place was left dry and quiet. I recently took my sister Alu there on her first visit to Jhb, and I was disappointed. There was nothing I could show her except where things used to be and where they used to happen and trying to paint the atmosphere of the place before to her. I will say though that Newtown might not be dead to all of us, but to me, it has less to offer than it did when I first laid my eyes on it in 2008.

As per all things that wilt away, there are times when the corpse that is Newtown is injected with Life and everything in it springs back into action. One of those is the annual Back to the City hip hop festival. I first attended this in 2010 and I was riding solo. I have always been of the sentiment that I want to share the pleasures of my life and things that interest me with those close to me. I was honoured with the pleasure of attending this years festival with my best friend in the whole wide world. My best friend is the complete opposite of me, and this scene is not something usual, but my best friend was blown away. Particularly enjoyed the break dancing section of it, considering the lack of dancing skills possessed. I on the other hand enjoyed the people, more than the performances. I somehow expected to be blown away by street style, but there was nothing that unusual or extraordinary. Yes the people were dressed best as they could, the problem was my standards.

Newtown was alive! It was bustling! Skater boys rolling up and down the short streets, young kids watching attentively as they tried to identify with the passion, red eyed blunt smokers zoning in and out with lost smiles. So much was happening all at once! Stalls selling the most popular apparel and wanna be designers showcasing their rare pieces. I was intoxicated in a joy that you can only experience when you are amongst creatives. Fun was had, lots and lots of it. I could not stop smiling as I saw faces I had not seen in years. Right now, my heart is content. Unfortunately, I am hungry for more.

i don't know who these performers were, and honestly they were not that great.

one of the only female break dancers I saw on stage, she had her game face on!

the likes of us, spectators.

the graf work, which happens while the festival is taking place. every year they paint over the previous years artwork. dope is what it is!

one of the fashion (most of them were t-shirts) stalls.

like mother like sun. the kid who stole our hearts while trying to imitate his mums dance moves. we know your destiny boy (:
