I see the year is New

Hello there

I am not sure if there is a need to explain my absence, as we all know it was the holiday season. In this post I did what most bloggers did, recapped and shared my feelings.

Anyway, on to new things. The year is new!
So, Happy New Year to you and yours. I hope this year on my blog does not disappoint you, gives you the stuff that always makes you come back and surprises you at least (as well).

I am not going to explain the plans and intentions I have for the blog this year, I believe that growth is a silent process. I never shouted that I was growing from toddler to teenager, you just kept on seeing me evolving and growing taller, etc. So I believe the same principle should work with my blog as well. I am excited to be in my seventh year of blogging, but on my third on Blogger.

It has been a wonderful journey, sometimes I look back on my posts and wonder what got into me to post such a thing. But according to the hits and comments I received from you guys, it was all worth my time and energy. Sometimes blogging can become 'dry'. You feel uninspired and you think no one ever comes to visit, and if they do, its just a drop in. But, alas, the joy that comes with the 'publish' button is unmatched.

Blogging in South Africa might not be the same as blogging in first world countries (and we all wish it was), but its all in the name of blogging. Right across the world we do it for you (the reader) and for ourselves (the passion).

So, take a walk with me again. The journey has so far been a memorable one (especially my discovery of my favourite blogs).

Til the next post...

An afternoon with Quaz

Meet Quaz. I first got introduced to him in 2009, when a friend of mine sent me tracks from his mixtape and I later saw him on Facebook. I invited him and we started occasionally chatting. It was only later in the year that I got to meet him face-to-face when he invited me to the Orange Book Vol2 book launch which took place in downtown Johannesburg, at Kekeletla! Library. He did not disappoint, he was everything I imagined he would be, based on the little that I had picked up from our chats. I was a stranger, and he treated me like he had known me for many years. It was many years before I saw Quaz again, this time at the 2012 Back to the City festival. Strangely, even though we barely see each other or talk, we still click. I consider him my friend. Real name Richard Rodriguez Roodt, he hails all the way from Potchefstroom. A spoken word artist, a teacher, a brother, a son, a friend, a community organizer with a smile of note, he gave me time in his day to take a brisk walk through the things that are not usually written about him.

The first day I met Quaz.

Sindz: Besides Poetry, what are you passionate about?

Quaz: Teaching! Most of the work I’ve done involved(s) teaching. Funny thing is it feels like I’m the student though. I’m always learning new things about myself, about people and life. I also love making music. Being in that space is the most liberating experience. It’s just you, God and your creativity. Oh, I also love cooking. I have the most disturbing addiction to the food channel.

S: What has been your most favourite read (book, website, article, etc.) and what are you reading currently?

Q: I have many favourite reads. I constantly run into new favourites. Sometimes it’s a tweet and sometimes it’s a facebook status. I read everything from books to websites, business documents to the back of air freshner cans. I love science fiction. I think Isaac Asimov is a Sci-Fi god so anything by him always gets my nod of approval. 'Indaba My Children' by Credo Mutwa totally changed the way I saw life. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Spud. It reminded me so much of high school. I’m currently reading two books by two of my other favourite authors 'Jingo' by Terry Pratchett and a compilation of Afrikaans writing by Ingrid Jonker.

Tribal try out and Stuff

So the lady behind one of my favourite blogs said she wants to see me working the tribal print skirt I bought some time back. Admittedly, it is one of my favourite items in my wardrobe right now! I wore it at Back to the City 2012 and I wore it at Motlatsi's graduation celebration weekend in April. Here is a look at it, properly this time:

I had two outfits that night, the one I traveled in when I went to the Eastern Cape and the one I wore for the celebrations. See it was quick in, quick out affair. I left JHB on Saturday afternoon, the celebrations were that night and I came back on Sunday morning. Can you imagine the exhaustion, because I was on the road most of the time, driving from PE to Port Alfred via Gtwn and then driving from Port Alfred to EL. Trust that I was a wreck.

The pants I wore were also a fashion first for me, so you can say it was a weekend of firsts. Here it is:

And an additional extra, can you believe that this is my baby sister?

So what do you guys think?

xoxo
