Nike Festival of Air

I have always been a fan of the Nike brand, most importantly after I enrolled for my honours studies in Brand Management it was one of the brands I aspired to work for. I think they do brilliant brand strategy, customer retention, and so forth on their brand. Therefore why would I not aspire to be with such?

Anyway, that was about 18 months ago when they asked me the question at school and I have since found my home at a financial services provider that is totally phenomenal and innovative. Right now, there is no other place I would rather be. Anyway, back to Nike...

On the 5th of October me and my friend Nwabisa went to attend the Nike Festival of Air held at the Nike House of Innovation, which was to celebrate the design innovation (and the people behind it) that Nike is so famous for. For starters I was completely excited to have a chance to experience Nike beyond the sneakers I wear. They started us off on a creative design/arts workshop where, true to the fine artist in me, I produced this:

In my team, combined we sort of pulled this off. Do not ask me what it is, I was just happy to be dabbling in a bit of art expression again.

On the street while taking a walk during one of the breaks I was able to snap this one and only graffiti work I noticed:

We also went to Kitcheners and some companions of ours from East London, namely Transkei Republik, were having a young performance there:

And right before the afterparty started, we dashed off to the heart of Joburg CBD to grab some stuff and I snapped the only piece of cityscape I could manage in that little window I was standing in:

And then the party of all small parties started. It was that because all the cool kids who rep the Nike brand were there, bloggers and some other socialites our age. It was quite an interesting event, with me experiencing Dirty Paraffin live for the first time (I totes love these guys) and meeting some of the guys I follow religiously on social networks. What a Jive!

Greatness Achieved

It is day two after the race and I feel like I was run over by a huge truck! I walk like some sort of robot and I constantly wince in pain. This is the price I am paying for finishing my second marathon this year (the first being the JPMorgan 7.5km run) and with every jab of pain, I whisper 'GREATNESS' to myself and soldier on. I will admit, this marathon running thing has not been a big deal to me, I did it purely for interests sake. But after the overwhelming support and feedback from my friends and family, I realised that running marathons is more than just an interest. I make an impact on someone else's life and that for me is HUGE!

Anyway, I started the race 16mins late because honestly that is how long it took for the people at the very end of the line (me included) to start moving after the shot had gone off. I was determined to join some friends who were further up, but that ended up not happening. By some stroke of luck, while running on Grayston, I was joined by a young lady who went to the same high school as me. What a coincidence! She was so much fun to run with and I would not have performed as I did without her.

WE RUN JOZI x SINDZ

So by now, most Joburger's know that the Nike We Run Jozi 10K race is happening this coming weekend, and ofcourse, as a lover of things (and fitness) I signed up to run. How exciting is this?

I'm ecstatic! Not only because I get to flex some of my muscles, but also because I will be seeing a whole lot of new people on that route and it will be a ball to blog about. I doubt though that I will be running the whole distance, gosh I would dzie! So the plan is to run as much as I can, then do a street shoot so that you my reader can experience this with me.

Prenisha and I went to The Zone in Rosebank to go pick up the registration package which consists of some niceties, and a tee ofcourse, in true Nikey style. The plan was to run with my best friend, but he registered too late, so this here lady will be running SOLO! Nice right? Well he did promise to cheer me on...that counts.

I'm Sold!

In a time slotted nicely at my memory archives of the 90's, my mother was a driving force in my shoe game (obviously). As the first born, I went through all the spoils! I wore rare pieces, expensive clothes and was a very stylish baby, and later youngling. I remember, in particular, my favourite shoe. It was a pair of Nike high tops. Yes! High tops existed long before today. Now the thing is, today at my day and age, I do not own a pair of sneakers. Not even one! I had an all black pair of Converse sneakers that my baby sister jumped from me. And that was it.

When I realised this, I was gutted. I am a sandal kind of girl, so trust that I have loads of those. Now unfortunately, I am too broke to start on my sneaker collection. So I will put this on hold, until I finish paying off my studies and have a bit of financial freedom.

Sooooooo, this is the reason I fell inlove with sneakers all over again. I am SOLD!

Introducing the Isabel Marant Bekket High Top Sneaker. This is not available in South Africa, if one wants a pair, they would have to shop online. They go for $665 which is about R5581. A lot for a pair of sneakers, but if you have the cash, go for it. As for me, I dream of them and hope some reputable brand will make similar ones.

suede, strapped with a secret wedge...so your hight gets pushed up a bit. how gangster is that?

available in various colours.
